Food for Life
Food for Life brings schools, nurseries, hospitals and care homes, and their surrounding communities together around the core ethos of healthy, tasty and sustainable food.
The programme is about more than just food on the plate; it considers where food comes from and how it’s grown, cooked and experienced. Food for Life provides practical advice and support, and reward and celebrate success.
The Early Years Award provides an independent endorsement for nurseries and children’s centres that serve good quality, nutritious food and support the babies and children in their care to develop good eating habits for life.
The School Award supports schools to take a whole school approach that sees them grow their own food; organise trips to farms; source food from local producers; set up school farmers’ markets; hold community food events; provide cooking and growing clubs for pupils and their families; serve freshly prepared, well-sourced meals and provide an attractive dining environment so lunchtimes are a positive feature of the school day.
The Hospital Leaders team work in partnership with NHS Trusts to promote health and sustainability as well as improving the food experience of patients, staff and visitors.
Each of these programmes is underpinned by an evidence-based, whole setting approach.
Educo has generously offered to support Food for Life by donating a percentage of their charges to the programme. Through this donation, Educo are helping schools to benefit from the expert advice of Food for Life, providing healthy school meals, great lunchtimes and food education that has a positive impact on both pupils and the wider community.
